This is a painting of Krishna, the ultimate Hindu god. He represents the archetypal ideal of divine love. He is the god of love. When represented playing the flute, Krishna's divine love is meant to flow out and enter into man, filling his whole being. The flute represents the human heart. The saying goes: a heart which is made hollow will become a flute for the god of love to play upon. That's so beautiful. I think music can touch our souls and connect us in a magical way-can be transportive-so I find this idea appealing and charming.

Artist's commentary
This painting glows with colour. It’s vibrant and gestural, with rich texture and dynamic brush strokes. It’s one of my over-paintings. Some historical layers obscured and some reading through. It’s one of those interesting paintings you can look at and look at and see different things.
