About this artwork
A standard post card measures 6 by 4 inches, commonly depicting romantic landscapes with picture perfect weather and bold colours. I utilize these qualities across my work in imitation of postcards, as an expression of relationship with Hong Kong, where my family is from. The small size, reliance on photograph for references, and touristic lens emphasizes my disconnection as a second-generation immigrant.

About the artist
Adora Lau is a second-generation Chinese immigrant based in Whitchurch-Stouffville, Canada. Her work is a meditative exploration of her personal relationship with loss, and the limited ties that connect with her homeland of Hong Kong. Her practice uses a range of acrylic, watercolour, and charcoal medium, often through labour intensive processes. The artworks she creates are forms of letting go, to evoke senses of finality, nostalgia, and tranquility that follows acceptance.
