The work is part of the series ‘Stories of Transition’ (2020 - 2021) This work is inspired by the contrast of the dark earth and the light heaven, trying to move towards the light. Making our way in life through the walls of life. The walls which are aged by the words of wisdom through all times. The first inspiration was drawn from a photograph of Patmos (Greece) and some contemplation. During the creating process Van de Graaf listened to Public Enemy, ‘He Got Game’ and heard the sentence “Now if you take key to the words of wisdom, that are written on the walls of life” he found the missing inspiration for this work.
