This work from my Chaos & Order collection, uses a laser cut to cut interlocking geometric composition out of the abstractly painted surface, before reworking the pieces and composing them back together- like that of a mosaic- to complete the finished painting. Inspired by the mandala, a timeless universal symbol practised cross-culturally as a form of meditation. Awakening breaks away from the mandala's conventional symmetry, creating asymmetric compositions that allow the viewer to complete the composition within their own perception. The abstract expressive painting is given geometric order by the hard-edged geometric shapes which are symbolic of the interplay of opposites that integral to our ontological worldview: hot and cold, black and white, heaven and hell or in the mantra chosen for this work, Chaos and order. The works ask us to awaken and to see ourselves as an integral part of the interplay of life, the dance of duality and the potential of humanity.
