About this artwork
A constant presence is framed by ancestral attributes rooted in culture and tradition, a myth seen as a protective entity and at the same time as a devastating entity. The project presents the tensions between the Galeras volcano and the inhabitants of the city of San Juan de Pasto; The volcano has been active since the first Spanish records in 1600 but despite this, its inhabitants refuse to evacuate; presenting a clash of glances between those who say that the volcano threatens to destroy the city and those who consider it a protector that would never harm them. A volcano with many shapes to be seen.

About the artist
My projects arise from a process of observing the environment, often assimilated as “Landscape”. I seek to disrupt this concept with different ways of conceiving the world, drawing inspiration from my native region, Nariño. That’s why I always find myself traveling through that mountainous area where the borders of Colombia and Ecuador blur. I usually focus on the qualities we can attribute to the places, highlighting their tensions, which in most cases result from the diversity of perspectives with which we can approach the same thing. That’s why in my work, a single point of view, a precise idea, or something similar doesn’t solidify. I’m more interested in the idea of constructing worlds from multiplicity, diversifying thought, and entangling/disturbing what cannot be changed.
