About the artist
“A painting is the dynamic state of consciousness frozen in time.” A.S. www.ronjamieson.com. Born 1949 in Montreal, I was surrounded by Art and artists. Both parents were artists and my son followed with Art as a career. After I obtained a BFA at Concordia University in Montreal, I worked in the advertising business from ‘71 and my own Design Co. in ‘84 to the present, the last 20 years I have dedicated myself to being a painter. In the year 2000 I was signed to Waddington Gorce Gallery for the following 5 years, and had 2 solo shows and represented by the gallery in the Toronto and Miami International Art Fairs. I joined Gallery Han Art in Westmount in 2006 and had 2 solo shows. After 6 years with Han Art, I signed with Pat Fox as Art Agent and had 4 solo shows with her and continue with private shows with a new Agent. My work is included in many private and Corporate collections locally and Internationally. My primary and early main influences were the early Surrealist Artists such as Magritte and Tanguay. Surrealism was my main inspiration in creating earlier sculptures, conceptual projects and painting. Presently my main contemporary influences are the painters Gerhard Richter, Alex Colville, Edward Hopper, Maurizio Cattelan and Giorgio Morandi. Music is also fundamental in my painting process, a few of my influences and inspiration are the composers Murray Schafer, John Cage, Bach and Miles Davis. “My daily inspiration is Zen meditation and awareness (the being of nothing), initiating a stream of consciousness inner dialogue for painting with Truth as the common denominator.” As Leonardo da Vinci wrote,”Of all the great things about us the being of nothingness is the greatest.”
