About this artwork
Throughout art history, many artists have painted oxen—one famous example being Rembrandt or Francis Bacon. I have taken it upon myself to reinterpret the ox in a contemporary way, especially in our present era of vegetarianism and veganism, where meat is increasingly being replaced by plant-based protein. My depiction is not only a visual homage to these masters but also a critical reflection on our evolving relationship with animals and food. While the ox was historically a symbol of strength, labor, and sacrifice, my interpretation engages with today’s discussions on sustainability, ethics, and the conscious shift away from animal products. In doing so, I aim to expand the traditional perspective on this subject and offer a new interpretation that reflects modern values and lifestyles.
