About this artwork
The paintings in the Dénia series are inspired by the sights, textures and sensory input of the town in Eastern Spain where I spent many Summer months as a child and adolescent. The series is based entirely on physical and emotional memory rather than on any actual imagery or physical mementos. Technically, the initial ideas for the series developed into an abstract, strongly geometric language executed with heavy oil impasto mixed with marble dust and applied with a palette knife to create rough, unique textures. Layers of washes are also part of the vocabulary of the series.

About the artist
I am an artist and photographer originally from València, Spain, but now based in Croydon, South London. I trained as a figurative painter but my practice currently encompasses abstraction as well as figuration. In my abstract practice, I am very interested in the material properties of the painting medium, and I often work in heavy oil impasto to create surface textures on my canvases in which markmaking and the painter's hand are very visible. Themes explored in my abstract work include memory, emotion, and the passage of time. Colour and composition are fundamental in my creative process.
