Hello, my name is Kyle, and I am an artist based in Toronto specializing in abstract and expressionist paintings as well as ceramics. My creative process is centered around self-exploration, understanding, and the exploration of meditative states, particularly the state of flow. My fascination with the flow state originated from my experiences as a track and field athlete, where I first encountered the profound impact of being in a state of complete focus and immersion. Over the years, I have come to realize that art creation serves as a conduit to accessing deep spiritual and divine experiences. Within my artistic practice, I embrace two distinctive approaches. The first involves a rapid and impulsive classic gestural expressionism, characterized by swift and dynamic changes in the paintings. This phase embodies a sense of urgency and spontaneity in my work. Subsequently, I invest extensive hours in creating simple marks on the canvas, deriving a sense of peace and tranquility from the act of drawing lines and marks. This repetitive process acts as a form of meditation, enabling me to engage in a state of pure discipline. By blending impulsive expressionism with disciplined mark-making, I navigate the contrasting energies of chaos and stillness, both of which hold the potential to guide us into the flow state.
