Art and life intersect in their capacity to nurture mind, body and spirit in this colorful still life oil painting of artichokes. The horizontal painting captures a play of textures and colors in both the artichoke and its surrounding space. A palette of beautiful greens, golds, and deep violet hues engage the senses with shapes and patterns for the mind to explore. The direct and simplistic style accentuates the beauty of form in its purest nature infusing a bit of wonder and delight as part of the painting's aesthetic. Inspiration for this still life was the opportunity to work with artichokes as a point of interest. They are one of my favorite childhood vegetables. Interestingly when I completed the painting and was considering a title, I realized the artichoke is native to the Mediterranean and is actually an edible flower.

Living with this artwork is like
Visiting Greece
Believe it or not
Artichoke plants grow up to 3 feet tall and grow on stalks.
A random fact I love is
Artichokes remind me of my childhood and mother.
This artwork comments on
The artistry of vegetables as symbols of natures mastery of form.
Don't hate this artwork if it
causes you to question something.
