This original artwork is a 1 of 1 acrylic photo transfer onto two sheets of corrugated metal. It is from my series Mining For Some Sort of Continuity. A study of the fleeting nature of memories, this series focuses on how personal archives construct a mobile, personal, and ephemeral archive that is fundamental to the construction of diasporic identities. This artwork captures a family awaiting the start of a cockfight. Presented as an acrylic transfer on two sheets of corrugated metal, the image is fractured by a light leak from the original photograph, leaving the blue sky, green background, and upper torsos of the subjects untouched by the red and yellow streak that cuts across the lower part of the artwork. On the left edge, a man organizing the event stands on the phone, while the family attending the fight sits patiently to the right. In the center, a man selling drinks from an ice tub is framed by a cage holding a rooster, which fades into the light leak, barely visible within the distortion.
