I am a Los Angeles-based visual artist born to Mexican immigrant parents. I work across a range of media with an emphasis in painting and drawing. While the work is rooted in a formalist play of form, color, and mark making, it is most notable for its interjections of cryptic, semiotic imagery. In my most recent body of work, I more heavily abstract these references, emphasizing their potential as pre-linguistic communicators. I work the surface of the canvases methodically over time. Delicate, scratchy linework reveals vibrant, premeditated underpaintings. Flat layers of spraypaint, and sumptuous painterly marks overlay one another, locking each composition in balance. I earned my Bachelor's Degree from the UCLA and I currently live and work in Leimert Park.
