About this artwork
Old Knox College (now the Daniels Building, part of the University of Toronto Faculty of Architecture) is located in Spadina Circle in Toronto. For these perspective drawings, I wanted to draw the buildings from angles they had never been photographed from before. This was drawn by choosing a perspective, drawing the floor plan in that perspective, and drawing the building wall by wall. The shadows were laid out geometrically assuming a sun position that would cast shadows nicely back onto the building.

About the artist
My current body of work, called Toronto Gothic, is a memorial for my father and an homage to Toronto’s rich collection of Gothic Revival architecture. My dad was a draftsman, and to keep his spirit close to me I’ve been learning manual drafting methods and applying them toward drawing images of Gothic Revival buildings in the city from angles they’ve not been photographed from and without any obstructions to the view. I detail them in ink with the objective of achieving as much realism as possible.
