About this artwork
What was once Deer Park Presbyterian Church is now a condominium complex, though the facade remains in place. This drawing was made using manual 3-point perspective techniques, to create an image as though you are looking up at the tower. This is a complicated scheme to work within, particularly when the vanishing points are well off the page. The shadows were plotted geometrically by assuming a sun position relative to the horizon. This took approximately 6 months to complete.

About the artist
My current body of work, called Toronto Gothic, is a memorial for my father and an homage to Toronto’s rich collection of Gothic Revival architecture. My dad was a draftsman, and to keep his spirit close to me I’ve been learning manual drafting methods and applying them toward drawing images of Gothic Revival buildings in the city from angles they’ve not been photographed from and without any obstructions to the view. I detail them in ink with the objective of achieving as much realism as possible.
