About this artwork
“Heaven Bleeds but Still Rises” A majestic Black angel ascends through the storm—wings torn and bloodied, yet still spread wide in defiance and grace. Her white curls crowned with a golden halo, she carries the scars of countless battles etched into her skin like sacred sigils. Her flowing robe, tattered and marked, speaks to resilience born from struggle. Beneath her feet, anguished green-hued figures claw upward—monstrous, broken, or perhaps corrupted by a world that chews up the innocent. They scream, grasp, and wail as her presence scorches through the darkness. Feathered blades rain down, each strike cutting through the hands of oppression, illusion, or decay. The sky behind her is blue and breaking open, as if the heavens themselves are mourning and bearing witness. She is not unscathed—she is divine because she carries pain. Her stance says, “I have suffered, and still, I rise.” This is not just an angel. This is an ancestor. A protector. A mirror. A call to remember the sacred fight for liberation.

About the artist

I am mixed-media artist and storyteller rooted in Kansas City’s historic 18th & Vine district. My work blends Afro-futurism, spirituality, and cultural memory to honor the past, heal the present, and spark transformation. Drawing inspiration from ancestral wisdom, jazz, and the resilience of Black communities, I creates art that is both a mirror and a prayer.
