About this artwork
40 × 30” abstract acrylic on 2” gallery wrapped canvas. In the “calm | chaos” series, I explore the delicate balance between wild chaos and stillness. Each piece in the collection is crafted to express a dynamic interplay between these contrasting elements, resulting in compositions that are both visually striking and harmonious. Through bold brushstrokes and thoughtful restraint, the series reflects the tension and unity between disorder and simplicity, inviting viewers to experience the energy amidst the calm within the art.

About the artist
Joelle Ater is a dynamic artist adept in textured acrylic abstract expressionist paintings. Her energetic pieces have been described as having a "poetic intensity." Her work is a vibrant exploration of motion and emotion, captured through the dynamic interplay of color, movement, and texture. Each piece includes a form of visual journaling, where the canvas becomes a diary of her emotional journey. Drawing inspiration from the improvisational spirit of jazz and modern dance, she embraces spontaneity and fluidity in her art, allowing each brushstroke to flow freely and rhythmically. As a music and art educator, she is passionate about teaching and encouraging others, believing that everyone has innate creativity. In addition to her artistic pursuits, Joelle leverages her skills as a Creative Director for the nonprofit Riley's Residence, and as a social media manager for various organizations. When she’s not occupied with art and music, you can find her rollerskating on the Greenbelt with her kids.
