Rebecca Schneider “Butterfly Effect” - 2024, 36x36" Acrylic and Pastels on Canvas xobexstudio.com (http://xobexstudio.com/) Inspired by the phases of the monarch butterfly, from birth to glory, this work is a depiction of the conflict between wrath and patience. Prismatic hues halo a golden orange, applied with acrylics and pastels. The effect is bold yet diaphanous. Gestures of expression fill the canvas with layered color using Schneider’s signature technique of thickly applied paint strokes blended with meticulously layered washes. Notice the way color is built on cocoon-like depths and then flickered with airy brights in flight. There is more than meets the eye. Many phases lie beneath - mostly unseen but a necessary and dimensional foundation. Everything is made beautiful in its own time. Wrath is the harsh disorder of a broken world. But Patience. Where wrath is chaotic and unjust, patience offers a soothing balm. Wrath is compacting, pressurized, and dark. Chest tightened, throat closed, lungs begging for a fresh wind. Our muscles quarrel with the quiet and ache to stretch out. We did not ask for this and we don’t know what comes next. We must wait, childlike, in the Chrysalis. Humble and accepting of what cannot be changed, but hopeful in the vision of a promised future. Patience helps us persist amidst the wrath of a harsh and broken world - we wait upon the hope of perfect beauty in eternal fullness to come.
