As a Haitian-American artist living in Haiti, my journey into the abstract realm of art has been deeply influenced by the vibrant tapestry of Vodou culture, particularly the Gede spirits. Embracing Buddhism has allowed me to view the world through a lens of interconnectedness and impermanence, themes that resonate profoundly with the Gede's embodiment of life, death, and rebirth. My abstract collection on the theme of Gede is a reflection of this synthesis, a dance between the tangible and the ethereal, the seen and the unseen. In my work, I strive to capture the essence of Gede — their playful yet profound nature, their colors, and their symbols — and translate it into abstract forms that invite viewers to explore their own interpretations of these powerful cultural icons. Through my art, I seek to bridge the gap between the spiritual and the physical, drawing upon my dual heritage and spiritual beliefs to offer a fresh, introspective take on the rich cultural heritage of Haiti. This collection is not just an artistic endeavour but a personal pilgrimage through the complex interplay of identity, spirituality, and cultural legacy.
