About this artwork
This painting is part of a new series which I began a few months ago, focussed on the experience of city life. The urban environment can be an exhilarating world of reflections, of glass and steel, half-seen figures glimpsed across a crowded street; of steamed-up windows and lights and sound. I wanted to build up paintings with layers that express this sensory experience. Figures maybe interact or barely notice each other; the layering also adds this narrative element in which the viewer can add their own interpretation of the fragmentary moments.

About the artist
I trained at The Ruskin School of Art in Oxford, graduating in the early 1980s with a degree in Fine Art. I moved to London and began working in the world of film and television. I learned lighting, set design and editing, and later became a producer of tv commercials. After several heady years of travel and long hours. I decided to return to my first love, painting. I moved, with my wife and young family, back to Oxford. We lived in an old farmhouse but then the chance came to build our own house. This has been an ongoing project for several years now- I built myself a new studio just this year. During this time I have exhibited in numerous art fairs and several galleries. I have been involved in lots of group shows and a few solo ones. I have won a couple of prizes and my work has sold widely across the UK, several European countries and the USA.
