About the artist
Evgenia Makarova is an interdisciplinary artist of Russian origin, living and working in the UK. Her art practice combines painting, sculpture, video art, and sound, exploring the influence of emotions on human consciousness and behavior while analyzing the concept of the norm. In her painting practice, Evgenia adheres to the principle of spontaneity. She avoids deliberate forms and movements, instead focusing on rapid execution, which transforms the creative act into an experiment. Here, color transcends its conventional function as a medium and becomes the protagonist, imbuing each hue with narrative and emotion. By combining abstract sensation with the concrete form of color spots, she synthesizes the dichotomies of chance and deliberation, precision and playfulness.
