About the artist
Sam Spano is an artist based in Massachusetts. He makes stylized and expressive paintings typically of animals, people and the natural world. Spano pulls imagery from a wide range of sources including vintage magazines, fashion advertisements, myths, legends and folklore, art history, film stills, his own photographs and direct observation. He received his MFA in painting from San Francisco Art Institute and his BFA from the New England School of Art and Design at Suffolk University. His work has been exhibited in galleries in San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, Brooklyn and Boston.
