About this artwork
Critically endangered and stunningly beautiful the Sumatran tiger is a symbol of protection as they are embodiment of the ancestral spirts. Sumatran tigers have suffered at the hands of humans due to habitat loss, fear-based persecution, and wildlife trade for their body parts. This triple threat has left the species on the brink of extinction with only 500 to 600 left in the wild.

About the artist
Hello! I’m Aubrey Philbin. My interest in art truly began in 2006 when I was in elementary school and it started with a fourth grade math project. Yes you read that right. A math project about symmetry. I was given a magazine page with half of Joaquin Phoenix’s face on it. I was to draw the other half. So with my crayola pencils I set to work drawing with as much detail as I could. It took me twice as long as my peers to finish. When I turned it in my teacher was amazed. He showed it off to everyone he could. He gave me a special award “World next Picasso.” The encouragement and validation was all I needed. I’ve been drawing and painting ever since. Back in 2022 when my son was a year old I left my job as an elementary schoolteacher to be a stay-at-home mom. Being away from my baby and missing out on his milestones was hard on my mental health. So I stayed home to take care of him and find my happiness again. My husband encouraged me to start making artwork consistently again, to paint beautiful things and let the world see. So here I am making art that feeds my soul, and brings joy to those who see it. Though I’ve made little monetary gain from my work I have made people happy and grown a small following through sharing my work. I hope that, one day, I’ll see my work hang in galleries.
