Sometimes I let myself be overwhelmed by my desire for structure. I create frames in which I enclose myself, in spite of myself (because I also want to break free). I'm torn between square and curve. I make these opposites live together in my textile artworks to allow myself to exist. Both rigid and flexible. My very intimate relationship with the material leads me to use textile construction and ornamentation techniques. I manipulate fibre. I weave and embroider, thread by thread. And I embellish, one bead at a time. My hands call me to create; to engage with the material. Because I have this need to manipulate, to explore the relationship between technique and material. To give each thread a touch of savoir-faire and sensitivity. Because of the slowness inherent in the techniques I use, I like to think of myself as an activist for slowness. I take the time, slowly, to make. I embrace this intimate moment of connection with the material.
