About this artwork
Indulgences were a way one could pay to be absolved of their sins. Even the construction of a tower in the Rouen Cathedral was paid for using money raised from indulgences so that people could eat butter during Lent. This piece references the struggles of my younger self growing up within Catholicism, my identity as a queer person, and the ideas of purity that that environment imposed.
