About this artwork
This piece was a stray from my ‘comfortable’ style. No planning or objective features, just a reflection of the moment. Working in design and animation as a career is full of rules, adhering to a clients vision. Painting is a way to escape those rules and have true creative freedom. I started with big colour patches, painted on with a palette knife. Next I defined shapes and brushed in paint strokes wherever it felt right. Overall this piece feels chaotic yet calming, a possible reflection of my life at the moment.

About the artist
Todd Ramsay was born and raised in Kelowna where he took every art related course possible in high school, followed by 3 years of Fine Arts at Okanagan College. In 1999, Todd enrolled in the Classical Animation program at Vancouver Film School. He has worked in the animation industry since 2000 as an animator, designer, director, instructor and owned his own animation studio in Kelowna, Yeti Farm Creative. The studio employed hundreds of artists who worked on shows such as Pete the Cat and Hotel Transylvania. With a need to explore art outside the confines of commercial animation, Todd revisited his Fine Arts roots and started painting again. He primarily works with acrylic on canvas, pen and paper but also creates in the digital space. Todd’s influences range from the cartoony puppet world of Jim Henson to more contemporary artists both past and present. Todd currently works from his studio in Kelowna, BC.
