“Everything starts with a brick” Stelios Ioannides is a painter and graphic designer, working and living in London for the last 10 years. Originally from Cyprus, his work is influenced by the front-facing nature of classic advertising techniques, early 2000s video games and their respective universes, as well as the “rough” nature of DIY scenes across multiple disciplines. In 2018 he begun developing his own shading technique using only black acrylic paint and brush, which he has been refining and exploring since using architectural and constructional concepts. In conjunction with this he developed his own technique for preparing and texturing wood in a signature “straight brushstroke” style. Venturing into the world of NFTs, he is further exploring the idea that “everything starts with a brick” by portraying construction tools and using rustic digital textures which allude to the graphics of yesteryears. His work aims to expose (instead of hide) the process and leave traces for the steps taken to produce a finished product, in a way that the two become homogenised.
