My studio practice is very intuitive when beginning a new piece and becomes more methodical as the work progresses. While I don’t work from an initial drawing or diagram, it can appear that certain elements and, in some cases, the completed work have been planned out ahead of time. It’s a method that allows me to remain focused and interested as I watch each piece develop over time, and to embrace the slow reveal of the final outcome. Each painting generates an apparent order, symmetry, or mirror image that alludes to both the natural and the mechanical world.
