About this artwork
I mostly paint portraits, so this is me getting out of my comfort zone while also trying to seriously enter the art world. This piece revolves around the ‘Glass gem’ corn, or maize, and its multitude of colors from which I draw my color palette. I wanted to include foods of different colors and origins to celebrate the art behind cooking, the labor of farming, and the community created through sharing meals. I used Bristol paper primed with GAC 100 resin and gesso for structural integrity and longevity. As a small artist, I do not have access to the space or resources for a large canvas painting, so for now I work with Bristol.

About the artist

I’ve been drawing people since I was a child in Jamaica, but only got into painting in 2020 at 19/20 years old. I always dreamed of pursuing art as a career, and am now trying to push through my economic fears and fully commit to painting and selling art for a living.
