About this artwork
This was technically one of the hardest series and my first proper 4 colour separation silkscreen print. I was obsessed with the fact that commercial printing presses produce full-colour images using just four ink colours and i wanted to try it for myself. By using different percentages of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black, collectively known as CMYK ink colours (from 0% to 100%) about 16,000 diverse colours can be created. The 4 layers of colour have to match up absolutely perfectly or the whole print is off and ruined. Usually, the way in which I make my prints is quite forgiving and at times even more than that, I welcome mistakes and misprints and they can organically lead the artwork in a different direction - but not here, not for this one! To me this is such a typical London scene, at the time I remember feeling inspired by what could be considered very mundane things, like a grey rainy street scene.
