This work is made through a process of layering yarn, paper and acrylic paint onto stretched canvas. It’s a work full of texture and moments of dynamic color and painterly interaction.

The work of Grant Newman is rooted in an explorative process. A variety of techniques, tools and materials are used to create paintings full of layers that toggle between what is seen and unseen. An exchange of adding and subtracting. A back and forth. They are a visual stew where pattern, use of the grid, gesture, texture and color clash, blend, swirl and pile into an ambiance of complexity. The work fluctuates between the macro and the micro, commotion and calm, making and erasure and the ambiguous space of beauty and meaning.
