A world without art is...
Not realistic.
Art is powerful because...
It deals with the raw data and essences which forms the mosaic of our collective curiosities. Like our languages and the stories we tell, its content transcends space and time, linking us with our origins, as we and our art stand, in present, perfectly still, surging into the future. It makes visible the symbols of our culture and we attempt to parse that mysterious universal dialog. It also commands a sickening amount of money and has been made in the name of life and death, of love and hate.
I like to learn about art by...
Making connections. That’s how I learn about everything. If I can have one point of reference that I can depart from, every subsequent interaction becomes an expansion of that original point of departure. It’s easier. That’s why reading artists biography is so essential. Cuts right to the heart of the matter so to speak. You curl up into them. Did they do that too? Do I relate to them? Do they relate to me? It’s more of a process of validation. What is “art”? Its the pursuit of knowledge.
