Lucie Leduc, a self-taught artist, began doing portraits in oil, which led to an exploration of more abstract forms. Currently, her style of painting is best described as a hybrid of abstraction and representation. In her most recent series, her canvases give viewers an array of images to absorb. With an emphasis on vibrant colours, flora and fauna, her work conveys a dreamlike quality as well as emotional intensity. To be painting these invented landscapes and beings is as much about climate grief as it is about escapism into a future world, where humans are at one with nature, even as this is potentially a utopian outcome. Even so, I like to think that my paintings stimulate the imagination and give one a sense of peace and well being. Lucie lives and works in Montreal. She has taken classes at the Ontario College of art, as well as studied in Florence, Italy.
