Portrait of Notting Hill Carnival founder, journalist and activist Claudia Jones who died in 1964, the year I was born. This piece was created in 2020 at the request of organisers of an online exhibition coinciding with the limited Notting Hill Carnival celebrations during lockdown. A movie biopic if her life is currently in production. Soft pastel on black textured pastel art paper. Framed in black wood box frame with white mount, UV protective poly glass, ready to hang. Signed on artwork and reverse of frame.

I take pride in
This portrait of Claudia Jones done in 2020, during the height of covid lockdown before the vaccine. This period coincided with the Black Lives Matter movement which opened my eyes to a lot of things and gifted me with renewed inspiration. I started to research the most incredible black women activists, pioneers, feminists, and artists who had been mostly airbrushed from history and discovered their stories.. the process continues.
