Born in Popayán, Colombia in 1986
Carlos Alfonso composes stories, directing them in such a way as to create a dialogue between the abstract and the concrete. His background in painting and drawing has been a significant influence on his modes of observation and thought, where pictorial qualities play a fundamental role. While his oeuvre is not defined by any specific medium, drawing persists as a common thread, constantly present as a way to articulate his other interests and mediums of communication. In this way, Alfonso sees the representational power of drawing not as something which is limited solely to the creation of an image, but rather as an alternative means through which to explore the intersection of different elements that make up the composition and interpretation of our history. This narrative aspect of his work involves a myriad of techniques including sculpture, performance, writing, and audiovisual elements.
